DESCRIPTIONS OF SOME WAYS TO GET INVOLVED
· Childcare Provider
Childcare providers provide a safe and fun environment for children up to 11 years old while their parents attend LCW classes, meetings, or events. Providers are responsible for coordinating and then facilitating fun activities for the children (LCW will provide all necessary activity materials) for an average of two hours a week. They must be at least 15 years or old, have previous childcare experience, and pass a Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) check.
· Food and/or Event Preparation
Food and event preparation volunteers are responsible for providing snacks, meals, and/or decoration for LCW classes, meeting, and/or events. Volunteers may help prepare a site for an event by hanging streamers, setting tables, etc., cooking or buying food prior to an event and if possible, deliver it to the event site, or helping to cook food during an event. Anyone with cooking or decorating experience is welcome and appreciated. LCW will reimburse you for expenses.
· Oral and Written Translation
Provide Spanish and/or English translation at LCW events and meetings. Translators must be fully bilingual, be comfortable speaking in front of crowds or writing, and possess a good understanding of the mission and projects of Lawrence CommunityWorks.
Volunteers are needed to help LCW staff with office tasks such as data entry, mailings, filing, phone calls, cleaning, and maintenance. The time commitment is flexible. This is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to gain resume-building office skills.
Volunteers are needed to help spread the word! These specific volunteers help spread the information to the people in our and their community, either by phone or going door-to-door. They are knowledgeable about upcoming events or programs, New volunteers are always welcome!
