Our Learning Community

LCW fosters a community of sharing ideas and resources to enhance the overall health of Lawrence and its residents. We work in a variety of strategic partnerships that help us build a stronger network for our members.

Impact Silver Springs

Mission: To create the capacity needed to build and sustain Silver Spring as a thriving, multicultural community by raising awareness, developing leadership, building relationships, fostering dialogue and facilitating collaborative action.

LCW is working with IMPACT to advance the Network Organizing Principles within their organization.

Denver Social Networks Learning Community

Mission: To provide opportunities for children and their families to move from poverty and dependence to self reliance.

Since 2006, LCW has helped develop the Denver Social Networks. Today all the organizations involved share their learning and experiences to build a more robust network and expand the real of opportunities to its members.

Chelsea Neighborhood Corporation

Mission: To invest in the process of building healthy neighborhoods by promoting affordable housing, desirable public spaces and resident prosperity and leadership. Beginning in 2006, LCW staff have provided assistance and training to Chelsea ND so that they could develop their own version of ‘NeighborCircles’

Annie E Casey Foundation – Making Connections

Mission: The primary mission of the Annie E. Casey Foundation is to foster public policies, human-service reforms, and community supports that more effectively meet the needs of today’s vulnerable children and families. In pursuit of this goal, the Foundation makes grants that help states, cities, and neighborhoods fashion more innovative, cost-effective responses to these needs.

The Annie E Casey Foundation of Baltimore MD, a long time supporter of LCW is now engaging the NOF to assist its “Making Connections” Initiative site across the country. Making Connections is a comprehensive effort to help families and their children succeed by building robust, supportive communities. Since the beginning of Making Connections, LCW has assisted the foundation since 2001 in developing its resident engagement and social network approaches.

The Community Builders (TCB)

Mission: To build strong communities where people of all incomes can achieve their full potential. We do this by developing, financing, and operating high quality affordable, mixed-income housing, by coordinating access to support services, and by planning and implementing other community and economic initiatives critical to the communities we serve. We focus primarily on meeting the needs of lower income people not effectively served by market forces. We favor a multi-disciplinary approach and engagements of significant scale that can have a lasting impact. We specialize in large-scale public and assisted housing redevelopment projects, transforming distressed housing projects into anchors for multifaceted revitalization efforts.

Ways and Means is an initiative by TCB to transform the way it delivers resident services and practices community-building among residents of its affordable housing developments across the nation.

The Network Organizing Forum operates training, technical assistance and documentation initiatives to advance, teach, and disseminate LCW’s network-centric place-based organizing and community development practice nationally.
