Academics and Personal Support
Academic Support:
Movement City offers academic support to all its members. There are tutors strategically placed around the center to help its members in Math, Science, English, and all other subjects.
College Prep:
In College Prep, youth work with staff to identify schools that match their interests and needs, manage the application process (including SAT test taking), improve their essay writing, navigate the financial aid process, and research and apply for scholarships. This course focuses on preparing Students for College before and after they have been accepted to college.
Individual Development Accounts:
Youth IDA involves the creation of Partnership Accounts for qualified members of Movement City. For every twenty dollars that youth save over one year, CommunityWorks matches it with another twenty dollars. Money saved is identified for asset purchases such as higher education, related costs of attending college or large educational expenses such as a computer. Participants in the program are required to attend a Money Management and College Prep class during their time in the program.
